Plan Education That Produces Action

Begin with the people and the performance gap

Education planning starts by defining who must do what differently, in which setting, and why the present result is inadequate. A request for a diabetes class is not yet a need. The actual gap might be inability to match insulin to carbohydrate, lack of affordable food, confusing discharge instructions, or missed follow-up. Separate a knowledge gap from a skill, motivation, workflow, access, language, or policy problem because education alone cannot repair every cause. Gather evidence from the intended audience, records, observation, staff, community partners, and relevant outcome data. State the priority population precisely rather than designing for an imaginary average learner.
