Use Informatics Without Losing Clinical Judgment

Telehealth is care delivered through a different workflow

Telehealth can support synchronous video or audio encounters, asynchronous exchange, portal communication, remote monitoring, and other remote services. The clinical standard does not fall simply because people are apart. Confirm that the service fits the client's need and that remote data are sufficient for a safe decision. Verify current professional licensure and scope rules, site and payer requirements, consent obligations, prescribing restrictions, and emergency procedures for the relevant jurisdictions and organization. These rules can change and differ by location. If examination, measurement, privacy, technology, or clinical instability makes remote care inadequate, arrange an appropriate in-person or emergency pathway rather than force completion.
