Domain II, Planning and Intervention
Population Guidance, Programs, and Resources
Translate national guidance into usable community action
Population guidance connects national evidence with local food availability, culture, life stage, disease burden, and policy. It is broader than teaching individuals to make better choices. A complete intervention may change food procurement, benefit access, retail availability, school or workplace standards, referral systems, or transportation while also building knowledge and skills. Start with a defined population and a documented disparity, then select guidance that applies to that group. Test whether recommended foods are affordable, acceptable, physically accessible, safe to prepare, and compatible with housing, disability, language, work schedules, and religious practice. Preserve nutrient goals while adapting examples and delivery. Separate general prevention guidance from individualized MNT for people whose diagnosis, medication, allergy, swallowing, or organ function requires a different plan.
