Apply Employment, Safety, Credentialing, and Labor Requirements
Map the rule before acting
Employment decisions sit under several layers at once: federal law, state and local law, licensure rules, a collective bargaining agreement, an individual contract, and organizational policy. The most protective applicable requirement or a binding contract may exceed a federal floor. First identify the worker, employer, location, decision, and controlling documents. Then involve human resources, safety, compliance, labor relations, or counsel through the organization's pathway. Apply the same job-related criteria to comparable cases, document the evidence and decision authority, protect confidential information, and preserve anti-retaliation rights. Do not assume that a policy can waive a law or that past practice can override a contract. Also do not promise a legal outcome before the responsible reviewer confirms coverage. On the exam, choose the response that stops immediate harm, protects rights, verifies the governing requirement, and uses the designated process.
