Ethical Reasoning and Professional Accountability
Identify the ethical duty and the correct forum
The Code of Ethics for the Nutrition and Dietetics Profession applies to all Academy members, whether or not they hold a CDR credential, and to all CDR-credentialed practitioners, whether or not they are Academy members. Its primary purpose is protection of the people and populations practitioners serve, the public, and the profession. The current Code became effective June 1, 2018 and contains a preamble, four principles, and 32 standards. It governs individual practitioners, not organizations as entities. An organization's conduct may still create legal, accreditation, payer, governance, or employment issues, and an individual practitioner's participation in that conduct may raise an ethical issue. Name whose action is at issue before choosing a complaint or reporting channel.
